Howard had volunteered for a joint mission with the RAF and was flying with 214 Squadron in a Wellington bomber which crashed near Russelheim in Germany. He was posthumously awarded the MC.Howard is buried at Durnbach War Cemetery in Germany.He left a wife Margot.
